I have a strong fascination with the night and the city, a fascination which likely originated out of the films, comics, video games, and other media I experienced through my childhood in the 1980’s.
When I began to take photography seriously, I wanted to experience these kinds of places and scenarios, so I used the camera as an excuse and went out searching.
I found I was able to make images that looked like the experiences I was searching for, but the images were far more exciting than my actual experiences in making those photographs. I quickly became disillusioned, realizing that what I sought to experience could only exist in the photographs I made. Simultaneously, I also realized a sense of liberation, as I found I could use the camera to construct any kind of fictional experience I wanted.
The resulting photographs document my physical experiences and simultaneously create a supposition for fictional places and experiences I could never actually live.
